UNICORE Rich Client v7.4.0 released

With its new version 7.4.0 the UNICORE Rich Client has been upgraded to the latest Eclipse platform.
It now offers support for choosing logins and groups in the secrurity profiles and queues in the job resources.
Additionally, to avoid problems with different java versions, the URC now includes a java runtime.

Jupyter-JSC

Research and analysis of large amounts of data from scientific simulations, in-situ visualization and application control are convincing scenarios for interactive supercomputing. The open-source software Jupyter¹ is a tool that has already been successfully used in many scientific disciplines. With its open and flexible web-based design, Jupyter (or JupyterLab2) is ideal for combining a wide variety of workflows and programming methods under one interface. With the multi-user capability of Jupyter via JuypterHub3, it is suitable for use at supercomputing centers and thus combines the way HPC users work on the local laptop with the operation of a supercomputer. To ensure that each user has access to his data on the HPC systems UNICORE is used. The combination of the UNICORE tools XUUDB, UNICORE/X, Gateway and TSI allows JupyterHub to offer users to spawn Jupyter applications with their HPC accounts on all supported HPC systems. The integration of Unity-IdM4 into UNICORE enables Jupyter-JSC5 to delegate the login procedure to Unity-Idm. Therefore Jupyter-JSC is able to meet the desire for more interactivity in supercomputing and to open up new possibilities of high-performance computing. A simple, direct web access for starting and connecting with Jupyter or JupyterLab to the login or compute node was integrated at the Juelich Supercomputing Centre (JSC).

UNICORE enables Jupyter-JSC to start and manage jobs on the HPC systems at JSC. This ensures that every user has access to his data and can work with a Jupyter application on them. In addition, UNICORE offers reliable management of the Jupyter application. It provides access to all information output by the Jupyter application. Thanks to UNICORE, JupyterHub does not require direct access to the user’s HPC account. In practice Jupyter-JSC could not be operated without UNICORE.

UNICORE Summit 2018: Call for Contributions

This years UNICORE Summit will be held as video conference on September 21, 2018.  The call for contributions is available at https://www.unicore.eu/call-for-contributions-2018.

Portal 2.3.0 released

The Portal version 2.3.0 has been released. It offers new data manager functions, such as scheduling data transfers, multiple file uploads, and shortcuts for paths and enhanced features, such as resuming held workflows as well as using user defined idbs and applications. UNICORE@ ISC’17

UNICORE is being presented at ISC’17 in Frankfurt, Germany (http://isc-hpc.com/). Visit booth J-535 and learn about application integration, workflow support, data management, and the different clients and their features.

Enhanced UNICORE File Transfer released

UFTPD 2.4.0, UFTP File Transfer Client 0.6.0, and Auth 1.3.0 have been released. They offer support for user’s Unix groups and new commands such as mkdir and rm. The cp command behaves more like the Unix ‘cp’ with wildcards, multifile copy, and preservation of modification times. A new blog post shows how to use UFTP with standard Unix tools. Portal V2.2.0 released

The new version of the UNICORE Portal offers now support for workflow templates. In addition it supports the use of execution environments and provides more detailed information for the user. Further details are given in the change log.

UNICORE @ SC’16

At this year’s Supercomputing Conference in Salt Lake City UNICORE is demonstrated at its own booth. Visit booth number 3366 and check out the new features of the UNICORE clients and services.

Workflow Service with REST API released

The new Workflow Server Bundle version 7.6.0 offers a REST API with workflow submission and monitoring support including hold and continue with parameter updates. Further details are given in the change log.
